Karin had the idea I was bitten by a snake.. But I was not.. so dont worry.. I have been sitting in the train for the whole day coming from Cochin going to Mangalore.
Cochin is a very nice and old city. Unfortunately the rain started when I just arrived there yesterday. Therefore the pictures are not very nice.. still it was interesting to see the dutch palace, St Francis Church, the oldest European church in India, and the jewish Synagogue (1568) which floors is paved with exquisite hand-painted blue willow tiles from China. Two hundred years old and no two tiles are alike. Not to forget the Chinese fishing nets close to old courst yard. Each structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever with an outstretched net suspended over the sea and large stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each installation is operated by a team of up to six fishermen. When I came there it was already 6pm , so I could not see it in action. But there was a lot of fish to buy and possibility to cook on one of the many restaurants close by.
Take care and see you soon,
Bianka
